Update a Content Pack

You can update a Content Pack that you've cloned into your class when a new revision of the Content Pack becomes available within the Starter Bundle.

Content Packs are named within the structure of Content Pack En Vn (Example— Calculus and Vectors E2 V1) to indicate what revisions they contain.

A Content Pack's edition is represented by En, where n is the edition number.

A Content Pack's version is represented by Vn, where n is the version number.

In addition to the edition and version numbers, Content Pack revisions are also indicated by the last updated revision date.

Once you've compared the edition number, version number, and revision date from the Content Pack release notes to your cloned Content Pack, you can determine if your cloned Content Pack needs to be updated.

Updating your cloned Content Pack to the latest revision can be performed in two ways:

By updating the entire Content Pack
By updating just individual questions or pages of the Content Pack

Check if your Content Pack is up-to-date

You can check if your cloned Content Pack is the most up-to-date revision based on the Content Pack's:

Name
Revision date

Check by name

To use the name of your cloned Content Pack to determine if it's the most up-to-date revision:

Check out View Content Pack release notes and notice the edition number and version number for the Content Pack of interest listed in the Current revision column.
Navigate to the Course Modules folder within the Current Class source of your Content Repository (this is where cloned Content Packs are stored in your Content Repository).
TIP: If you've only cloned individual questions or pages from a Content Pack (and not an entire Content Pack), this cloned content will be stored in the All Content Types root folder (not the Course Modules folder) of the Current Class source in your Content Repository:
Locate your individually cloned question or page in the All Content Types root folder and jump to step 3 of the Check by revision date section of this help topic to use the revision date in the Content Summary pane. This revision date allows you to determine if your individually cloned content requires updating. The Content Summary pane will appear the same whether the content being viewed is accessed from the Course Modules folder (of a fully cloned Content Pack) or the All Content Types folder (of an individually cloned question or page).
Locate your cloned Content Pack of interest in the Course Modules folder and notice its edition number and version number in the Content Pack's name.

Are the edition number and version number of the cloned Content Pack the same as what's displayed in the release notes? Then no further action is required and you're working with the most up-to-date revision of the content.
Are the edition number and version number of the cloned Content Pack earlier (Example — E1 V1) than what's displayed in the release notes (Example — E2 V1)? Then continue to the Obtain the most up-to-date Content Pack section of this help topic to begin working with the most up-to-date revision of the content.

Check by revision date

To use the revision date of your cloned Content Pack to determine if it's the most up-to-date revision:

Check out View Content Pack release notes and notice the revision date for the Content Pack of interest listed in the Last updated column.
Navigate to the Course Modules folder within the Current Class source of your Content Repository (this is where cloned Content Packs are stored in your Content Repository).
TIP: If you've only cloned individual questions or pages from a Content Pack (and not an entire Content Pack), this cloned content will be stored in the All Content Types root folder (not the Course Modules folder) of the Current Class source in your Content Repository:
Locate your individually cloned question or page in the All Content Types root folder and jump to step 3 of this section to use the revision date in the Content Summary pane. This revision date allows you to determine if your individually cloned content requires updating. The Content Summary pane will appear the same whether the content being viewed is accessed from the Course Modules folder (of a fully cloned Content Pack) or the All Content Types folder (of an individually cloned question or page).
Navigate to the Content Summary pane of a specific question or page within the Content Pack of interest and notice the date that's listed in the Revisions field.

Is the revision date of the cloned Content Pack later (Example — Sat Dec 19 2020) than what's displayed in the release notes (Example — Fri Dec 18 2020)? Then no further action is required and you're working with the most up-to-date revision of the content.
Is the revision date of the cloned Content Pack earlier (Example — Thu Dec 17 2020) than what's displayed in the release notes (Example — Fri Dec 18 2020)? Then continue to the Obtain the most updated Content Pack section of this help topic to begin working with the most up-to-date revision of the content.

Obtain the most up-to-date Content Pack

Once you've established that you're working with an older revision of a Content Pack, you can choose how to obtain the most up-to-date Content Pack.

The method to use for obtaining an updated Content Pack is based on the extent of the changes that you've made to your cloned Content Pack:

Update your entire Content Pack if you didn't make any significant changes to your previously imported Content Pack.
Update only individual pieces of content (questions or pages) within your Content Pack if you've made significant changes and additions to your cloned Content Pack or have built a custom course from a variety of other Content Packs.

Update your entire Content Pack

It's recommended that you update your entire Content pack if you didn't make any significant changes to your cloned Content Pack.

To update your entire Content Pack:

Disregard the class where the cloned Content Pack is stored and create a new class.

Import the newest revision of the Content Pack of interest into your new class by cloning it from the Starter Bundle source pane.

Update individual pieces of content within your Content Pack

It's recommended that you update only individual questions or pages of a Content Pack if significant changes were made to your cloned Content Pack.

To update only individual questions or pages of your cloned Content Pack:

Check out Import a Content Pack to clone individual questions or pages from the Starter Bundle Content Pack of interest into your class.
NOTE: Content Packs within the Starter Bundle source pane of the Content Repository are always the most up-to-date revisions of the Content Packs.
TIP: Be sure to navigate into the different folders of the Starter Bundle Content Pack of interest to be able to select individual questions or pages to clone into your class.
IMPORTANT: Importing specific content from the Starter Bundle Content Pack by cloning into your class will create an up-to-date copy of the original question or page in the All Content Types root folder of your Content Repository. The original content isn't overwritten to prevent accidental data loss.
Locate the updated content that was imported from step 1 in the All Content Types root folder of the Current Class source in your Content Repository.
TIP: Confirm that you're viewing the newly imported clone of the individual piece of content by viewing the date listed in the Revisions field of the content's Content Summary pane (check out View the Content Summary pane for reminders of how to access the Content Summary pane). This revision date should match the date of when you cloned the content into your class.
Select the check box of the newly imported content and click Add to from the bulk functions bar.
Navigate in the Add to window to the location within the cloned Content Pack that requires its content to be updated and select the check box of the location where the original content is stored.
Click Move to so that the newly imported content is relocated to its appropriate location within the cloned Content Pack that requires updating.
TIP: Check out Relocate content for clarification of the Add to and Move to functions.
Click Done in the Add to complete confirmation window to return to the Content Repository.
Locate the original revision of the content. Select its check box and click Delete from the bulk functions bar to see where the content is in use.
NOTE: Content can't be deleted if it's in use within an activity. You first have to make an attempt to delete the original content and use the error message to see where the content is in use. Once the original content is removed from those activities, you can then resume with deleting the original content.
TIP: Use the earliest revision date listed in the Revisions field of the Content Summary pane to ensure which revision of the duplicate content is the original revision. Check out View the Content Summary pane for reminders of how to access the Revisions field of the Content Summary pane.
Click Confirm to confirm the deletion to view the error message that shows where the content is in use.
Note the activity/activities listed in the deletion error message.
Click Ok in the Deletion Failed error message to return to the Content Repository.
Navigate into an affected activity and delete the original content by editing the activity.
IMPORTANT: Note the position of the original content within the activity so that you can insert the up-to-date revision into the same position.

Import the updated revision of the content into the same position that the original content was located within the activity.
IMPORTANT: Double check the revision date of the content you're about to import from the Import window to ensure that you're inserting the updated revision of the content.

Repeat steps 11 to 12 for as many activities as needed that appear listed in step 9.
Return to the original content within the Content Repository and delete the original content once it has been removed from all activities.
